Super Smash Bros. Research

Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U - 2015

These videos describes my research on the online environment of Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U. I played about 30 hours to record footage of players online and learn the two different cultures. I explain in the video the different modes of the game, as well as the "unwritten rules" of the social environment of "friend" and nonfriend players.

Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS - 2014

Download the paper above to read about my research on the online enviornment on griefers and their effect on the game. I researched why griefers online in the Super Smash Bros. series play the way they do. I experimented with three nonfamiliar players to griefing and three familiar players to griefing. I found that time was a vulnerable factor to influcening the growth of the Super Smash Bros. culture. I also am no longer calling the griefer players "griefers", for they are not intentionally harming other players. These players I am researching are now called "friends".
